You dont have to be a Pentagon Federal Credit Union member to benefit from Dream Makers, and you can apply the grant to a mortgage from any financial institution.

Mercks Patient Assistance Programs to Help Those in Need

At Merck, we believe that no one should go without the medicines or vaccines they need. This is consistent with Mercks long-held values and traditions of putting patients first.

Visual Learning Overview

Visual thinking is a learning style where the learner better understands and retains information when ideas, words and concepts are associated with images. Visual learning helps students organize and analyze information, integrate new knowledge and think critically. Graphic Organizers, diagrams and outlines are just some strategies of visual learning.

A graphic organizer is a visual display that demonstrates relationships between facts, concepts or ideas. A graphic organizer guides the learners thinking as they fill in and build upon a visual map or diagram. Webs, concept maps, mind maps and plots are some of the types of graphic organizers used in visual learning.

A concept map helps students organize and represent knowledge of a subject. Concept mapping links concepts and ideas together with words and phrases that explain the relationship. Concept maps encourage learners to discover new concepts, clearly communicate ideas and information, and enhance their knowledge on any topic.

Mind mapping is a visual form of note taking that offers an overview of a topic and its complex information. Through the use of colors, images and words, mind mapping begins with a central idea and expands outward to more in-depth sub-topics. Mind maps help students brainstorm on any topic and think creatively.

A web is a visual map that shows how different categories of information relate to one another. Webbing is a brainstorming method that provides structure for ideas and facts, creating a flexible framework for idea development, organizing and prioritizing.

An outline is a preliminary summary of written work, typically organized in headings and subheadings. Used to organize ones thoughts and information related to a project or paper, outlining helps students clarify their ideas and demonstrate their thinking process behind an essay or report. Structuring and organizing large amounts of information in an outline is the first step in the writing process.

Plots and graphs are a type of visual learning diagram that visually represents a relationship between sets of numbers as a set of points having coordinates determined by that relationship. Venn diagrams, bar graphs, stack plots, pie charts and axis plots are some examples that help students develop data literacy by interpreting information and drawing conclusions. Plots and graphs also help students acquire the skills of reasoning, inquiry and communication.

The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) is the non-profit, self-regulatory body that assigns ratings for video games and apps so parents can make informed choices. The ESRB rating system encompasses guidance about age-appropriateness, content, and interactive elements. As part of its self-regulatory role for the video game industry the ESRB also enforces industry-adopted advertising guidelines and helps ensure responsible web and mobile privacy practices under itsPrivacy Certifiedprogram. ESRB was established in 1994 by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA).

To empower consumers, especially parents, with guidance that allows them to make informed decisions about the age-appropriateness and suitability of video games and apps while holding the video game industry accountable for responsible marketing practices.

The ESRB rating system was devised after consulting a wide range of child development and academic experts, analyzing other rating systems and, most importantly, listening to parents. ESRB found that what consumers really want in a rating system is both age-based rating categories as well as concise, impartial information regarding content. Parents felt strongly that a rating system should inform and suggest, not prohibit, and should reflect the product overall rather than quantifying every instance of potentially objectionable content.

Today consumers play games on a variety of platforms and devices, and parental concerns go well beyond content to include other interactive elements like in-game or in-app purchases, user interactions or the sharing of a users location. In fact, parents today tend to place equal importance on guidance about interactive elements as they do about the specific content in a game.

With this philosophy in mind, the ESRB administers a three-part rating system that includes Rating Categories to suggest age-appropriateness, Content Descriptors to indicate what type of content may have triggered the rating and/or may be of interest or concern to the consumer, and Interactive Elements, which advise about user interactions, the sharing of users locations with others, if in-app purchases of digital goods are completed and/or if unrestricted internet access is provided. The result is a rating system that is widely adopted by game publishers, supported by retailers, and which is consistently described by parents and opinion leaders as the best entertainment rating system in the US.
